Over the 4th of July we went to our friend's Natalie and Mitchell's wedding. I wasn't the main photographer because Christine was in the wedding. Ok, so you aren't hard core until you have a baby in one hand and a camera in another. It was an awesome wedding starting at a church and then moving to a 3 tier glass boat that overlooked newport beach with an awesome view of fireworks.

Then we headed over to Le Corruse Rouge where she jams every Wednesday night as a jazz vocalist. As a wedding photographer, I have learned a lot about love and marriage. From the "Honey-Dos" to the "Yes Dears", I have heard a lot of advice on how to strengthen a marriage. For Andy and Julia, there was no advice given because they are perfect for each other. Their personalities complement each other and their unconditional love for each other is evident in every picture. I was so excited to be able to shoot this wedding and also be a part of their family.

You can't ask for a more perfect wedding than Eric and Nicole's. It took me a couple days to realize I wasn't dreaming and I was shooting a wedding you would only imagine celebrities would have. Eric and Nicole are a beautiful couple and I had so much fun the past 4 days. Thanks again to Jaqueline Pilar for doing an awesome job second shooting.

It's a toss up. Is it more fun to shoot weddings or family portraits? Weddings are very emotional and I love capturing the love between a man and a woman but family sessions are just plain fun. Especially with kids. I get to be silly and goofy and do anything possible to crack a smile out of them and for the most part it works. The Tabura girls were amazing. Cute. Pint-sized and adorable. I can't wait until my daughter is their age so that I can run around and chase her and pick pinecones with her but at the same time, I'm savoring every minute of the time I have with her now.

We have enjoyed reading all the nominations and it has been a very difficult decision. I'm thinking of making this an ongoing contest, because I love hearing about deserving people that need to be recognized.

Dear Patrick,

What a great idea and a wonderful way to bless someone who deserves it! As I hung up the phone earlier after a conversation with my friend Delilah, I knew immediately, that she was deserving of your gift! Although my nomination is for her, I would love to honor her whole family! I met Delilah and Manny Guadian two years ago when our daughters started performing with Ridgeview Vanguard. Delilah is such a wonderful person that I don’t even know where to begin!

Delilah is married to Manny and they are the proud parents of three children. Tabitha is 16, Danielle is 10, and Jeremy is 7. Tabitha is sweet girl who plays the clarinet and did an awesome job on Winter Drumline this year. Danielle is the faithful sister who obviously looks up to her sister and looks out for her little brother. Jeremy is a very special little boy with autism and is a joy to be around! Can you tell that I love this family? Delilah is completely dedicated to her family and her life revolves around them.

Delilah is a stay at home mom, but works more than anyone I know! She served as the vice-president for the Ridgeview Music boosters this past year and went above and beyond her duties by helping out the rest of us with our obligations. She knows all of the band students by name and has been know to pull them aside to check on them, encourage them, and let them know how much she cares. Delilah and Manny were also in charge of Chuck Wagon—feeding all those hungry band kids was an important job!

Delilah is also dedicated to serving her church. I know that she has served on many of the children’s ministries, youth groups, and helps prepare meals for activities and fundraisers. Her love of the lord has helped her through the last several months while she was taking care of her father who had been diagnosed with cancer and was in the hospital for several months. She visited her dad daily and helped her mom through this very emotional situation. Sadly, Delilah’s dad passed away last Friday, on Delilah’s birthday. In typical Delilah fashion, she didn’t ever complain and rejoiced that her father was in heaven and was honored that he gave her that peace on her birthday.

I could ramble on and on about what an amazing person Delilah is! She is always able to look at the positive side of everything and never complains or has anything negative to say. She is such a humble person that she always says that it isn’t about her, but all of us working together. I would love to be able to give a little something back to her for all that she gives to everyone who knows her. She is truly an inspiration and someone who I look up to. I am honored to have Delilah Guadian as a friend!

Elvia has been volunteering in my wife's classroom for an entire year, compassionately giving her time to help her students grow. I love my wife. I love her for taking my food away from me just before I begin to overeat. I love her for the little strawberry slices she puts on my waffles every morning. I love her for reminding me daily that I am a better photographer than I was yesterday and I love her even more for all she endured to bring our little girl into this world. I just love her. Sometimes I think of all the million and one things that I am grateful for but somehow remain unsaid and for that I want the world to know just how awesome she is.

Thinking about this made me realize that there have to be others out there that think and feel the same way I do. I know there may be someone in your life that deserves to be honored or praised; someone that you wish you could say, “I see you” in a meaningful way too. For this reason, I decided to create an opportunity for others to share their “special someone” with the rest of the world. Mother's Day

Well we kinda celebrated Mother's Day early because I was very anxious to give my presents to Christine, her mom, my mom and my grandma. I gave Christine a story book of her delivery and she loved it. I gave my mom, my grandma and Christine's mom framed pictures of Sophia. Having this baby has really made present shopping much easier. Pictures of Sophia are always a hit.

I also started teaching my sister how to use a camera. Who knows, we might start a family business.

I can't wait for my mom to come back and visit this weekend. In the 2 weeks Sophia has been in our lives, my mom has already come and visit twice. That's a lot of Bakersfield in the past couple of weeks. My sister and Grandma are also coming this weekend. We will be celebrating 4 moms this weekend and it will be Christine's first Mother's Day.

I have been getting really excited with each coming holiday. I guess when you get older, it isn't as exciting as it was when you were a kid. Now I can't wait for Sophia's first birthday, first Christmas, Thanksgiving, Halloween, etc.... Well, for the first couple years she probably won't know what's going on. Oh well, the pictures will look cool.

We were blessed today with 2 visits from friends and family. Natalie and Mitchell drove all the way from San Diego to visit us for a few hours. They are really close friends and getting married this upcoming July. I really wanted to take some engagement shots of them but I think the most challenging part of photography is when you are taking pictures of people that don't want to be photographed. Well, I was able to get a few in below. The second visit was from Uncle Peter and Aunt Cathy. They drove down all the way from San Mateo for just a couple hours. It was so awesome to spend some time with close friends and family. Even if its for a few hours.

How can you love someone so much that you've only known for a week? How do you hold someone for so long that peed on you as they were changing them? How do you stare at someone sleep for hours that only sleeps during the day and just a couple hours at night? How can you love the sound of a cry that won't stop? How can you take so many pictures of the same chubby face over and over? How can you worry about someone that is never further than 10 feet away from you? Everyone told me that having a baby will change your life. It truly has. She is my little love bug.

As of April 19, 2009 at 8:41am I have found a new purpose to my life. My daughter. I am still in shock and disbelief that this beautiful little person is my daughter. I have only known her for a few days now, and I can't stop loving her. She has been crying non stop and has not let me sleep for more than 2 hours in the past 4 days, but I still can't stop loving her. I would do anything for this girl and I am so thankful that God has given me her.

The "Bump" update

Well, any day now we should be expecting a new addition to our family. Everyday that we think will be the day turns out not to be and just makes us more anxious. I think that's how its been my whole life and I've subconsciously told myself not to expect things. Like when I was in college and I was unsure of how an exam turned out, I told myself that I failed. If I did happen to fail, it was no surprise. But... if I scored higher, then I exceeded my expectations and surprised myself.

Point of my story, I'm going to tell myself that the baby is not coming because the excitement is killing me. But its kinda hard applying my mental strategy because every hour, a certain mother appears on my caller id and asks, "Is she here yet?" Love you mom!!!

Well, it should be any day now. I can't wait to put up baby pictures up!!!

Filipino pride! It was so nice to spend the day with such a fun and down to earth couple. Not to mention, it was also nice to be able to joke about our stereotypical Filipino heritage while walking down the windy streets of Downtown Bakersfield. Alicia and Chuck have been together for ten years and yet they are still able to make each other laugh with just one subtle glance. It was easy to capture the spark between them because they are such a beautiful couple!

As I get closer to becoming a father, I have more opportunities to be around babies. Or maybe, I'm just more self conscious of when babies are around me. I don't know what it is, but I feel like I'm getting ready to be a father, yet I have no idea what I'm doing or what I'm in for. I don't know how to change a diaper yet or what a Baby Bumbo is, but I know that no one will love this girl more than I will. And I haven't even met her yet. I can't wait for Sophia to be born.

I just came from Jasmine Star's workshop and it was THE BEST WORKSHOP I have ever attended. I met some amazing photographers and learned so much. Thank you Jasmine for being Awesome. This is Honey and Andy. They are our babies. For now. I don't know how they will take it when Sophia is born and they will lose the center of attention. They are extremely codependent and spoiled. I was so excited to receive my wedding video highlights today. Our videographer, Patrick Pike did an awesome job. He mentioned that he is phasing out of videography because not a lot of brides want videos. To be honest, we were hesitant to get a video because we didn't feel like we would watch as much as we would look at the pictures. But I am so glad we did and I really hope that Patrick continues wedding videography. He is truly talented and I am so glad he captured the happiest day of my life. Well, in 3 months, it will be tied when Sophia is born.

A flower for each day he has been together with her. I soon realized that this couple not only had a passionate dedication for each other, but a subtle STOIC goofiness about them. In their presence, you can't help but laugh and admire the way he can't stop looking at her. I enjoyed my day capturing their subtle silliness and and joking about the fact that his biceps are larger than both my quads put together. What's more beautiful than seeing two people light up in the presence of one another? What can I say, he commutes every day to Beverly Hills for work, just to be able to come back into her arms every night...Dedication? I think so!

I asked my uncle and my aunt if I could take pictures of them. It was weird at first because he is my uncle and she is my aunt and I felt out of place telling them what to do. But it turned out to be a lot of fun and I felt more as a friend than a nephew that day. They had so much fun with each other and I loved capturing it. It was like they were a new couple on their first date.
